Bye Bye Daddy, bring me a snowglobe

or, a sandglobe considering where he's going.

Seth left at 4:30pm to head to Cairo for 4 weeks.  He's been away for much longer, but it's been a long time since he's traveled for work.  We also didn't have The Wook when he was away either.

He's going to see how he likes Cairo, how he will work out in the office and to check out the city and see if it's a good fit for our family.  I'm counting the hours until he comes back.

In the meantime I'll be at work and taking on the role of a single mom.  I already have much respect for single moms and stay at home moms from my maternity leave.  This is going to be difficult!  Luckily we have such an amazing support system of friends and family who will be here to visit.  My mom will be here for a week and Sara will come for a weekend.  I'm so excited to have their company and help.

I love you Seth.  I can't wait to pick you up at the airport.

Testing, Testing

I'm sitting on our sofa in our lovely home in Houston, Tx and really wondering about the future.  Seth is leaving for Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday to see how he's going to like it and see if we should move there for the next couple of years.

Wow, reality has started to set in.

I've started calling Houston "home", which was something I never thought would happen.  I'm so happy with or life here and all the amazing friends we've made along the way.  Benjamin was born here, and he's our little Texan, so why would we think of packing up the family and moving across an ocean?

So far all I know is that we will probably live in an area called Maadi.  It sounds like the best place for Seth, Benjamin and myself.  Seth and I have read a lot of books and websites and so far Maadi sounds great.  I've read that it won't be easy to expierence true Cairo culture, but I'm very cool with things being low key right now.

I'm not allowing myself to get too emotionally invested in the move right now.  The option of moving has been presented to us before and nothing panned out.  This is most definitely different, but I won't come out and say we're moving until I know it's 100% in the bag.

So, the name of this blog (thanks to Seth) is Mobile House.  Hopefully it will describe our many adventures living in Cairo.  If our lives take another direction and keep us in Houston then we're happy with that as well.  We will be mobile in another sense.

We will have to wait and see what the future has in store for us.  What I know right now, and what I know for sure are a couple of things-
1.  Seth's leaving this week and I'll be playing the role of single mom for 4 weeks
2.  yikes.  4 weeks!
3.  I'm so thankful for my amazing son, who is possibly the most energetic and happy baby to be around.  We're so blessed to have him in our lives.

Till we know more...
